1-hydroxybenzotriazole HOBT - Names and Identifiers
1-hydroxybenzotriazole HOBT - Introduction
1-Hydroxybenzotriazole (HOBT) is an organic compound with the chemical formula C6H5N3O. It is a white crystal, soluble in water and common organic solvents.
Primary Use:
1. As an activator and catalyst in organic synthesis, especially in coupling reactions and N-substitution reactions in peptide synthesis.
2. In the preparation of amide and ketone compounds, HOBT can be used as an auxiliary agent in the reaction to increase the yield and reduce side reactions.
3. It is also used in the synthesis of thiazole compounds and benzotriazole derivatives.
Method:
Generally speaking, there are usually two methods for preparing HOBT:
1. By the reaction of benzotriazole and hydrogen peroxide.
2. Obtained by condensation of O-aminophenol and isocyanate.
Safety Information:
HOBT is a relatively safe compound under regular experimental conditions, but attention should be paid to following laboratory safety procedures. Avoid direct contact with skin and eyes, avoid inhaling its dust. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including lab gloves and eye protection, at the time of use.
It is worth noting that HOBT can decompose under certain conditions to produce toxic nitrogen oxides, so avoid reacting with strong oxidants or high temperatures during operation. If spills occur, they should be removed promptly and waste properly disposed. Observe relevant environmental regulations and correct handling procedures during disposal.
